Every herb has a story—a tradition of use stretching back centuries across multiple cultures. Here's what we work with and why.
Calming & Peace
Lavender
Traditional uses: Peace, calm, sleep, purification, love
Found in: Quiet Mind, Tender Heart, Inner Radiance
The most universally beloved calming herb. Lavender has been used for centuries in everything from Roman baths to medieval strewing herbs to modern aromatherapy. Its gentle floral scent signals "rest" to the nervous system.
Chamomile
Traditional uses: Relaxation, sleep, soothing anxiety, gentle healing
Found in: Quiet Mind, Inner Radiance, Hyperfocus Chamomile
Known as the "plant's physician" because it helps other plants grow better when planted nearby. Chamomile's apple-like sweetness brings gentle energy to any blend.
Lemon Balm
Traditional uses: Calm, mental clarity, uplifting mood, heart-soothing
Found in: Quiet Mind, Tender Heart
A member of the mint family with a bright, citrusy scent. Historically used to "gladden the heart" and support clear thinking without sedation.
Protection & Cleansing
Rosemary
Traditional uses: Protection, purification, memory, clarity
Found in: Sacred Shield, Hyperfocus Rosemary
"Rosemary for remembrance" isn't just Shakespeare—this herb has been used at funerals, weddings, and everything in between. Its sharp, camphor-like scent cuts through stagnant energy.
Bay Leaf
Traditional uses: Protection, success, purification, psychic awareness
Found in: Sacred Shield, Hyperfocus Bay Leaf
Sacred to Apollo and used by the Oracle at Delphi. Bay brings a warm, slightly spicy quality that feels both protective and elevating.
Mugwort
Traditional uses: Dreams, intuition, protection, psychic work
Found in: Quiet Mind, Moonlit Path
One of the most ancient ritual herbs, associated with Artemis and the moon. Mugwort has a distinctive earthy, slightly bitter scent that many find deeply grounding.
Love & Heart
Rose
Traditional uses: Love, self-love, emotional healing, beauty, devotion
Found in: Tender Heart, Inner Radiance
The universal symbol of love. Rose's complex floral notes support heart-opening work, whether romantic love, self-compassion, or grief processing.
Calendula
Traditional uses: Joy, warmth, healing, sun energy, optimism
Found in: Inner Radiance, Hyperfocus Calendula
Also called "pot marigold," calendula brings sunny, warm energy. Traditionally used in healing salves, it carries associations with gentle restoration.
Prosperity & Success
Cinnamon
Traditional uses: Prosperity, success, passion, energy, warmth
Found in: Golden Path, Hyperfocus Cinnamon
One of the oldest traded spices, once worth more than gold. Cinnamon's warm, spicy sweetness is associated with abundance and drawing in good fortune.
Clove
Traditional uses: Prosperity, protection, love, banishing negativity
Found in: Golden Path, Sacred Shield
A powerful spice with a strong, warm presence. Clove traditionally drives away negativity while attracting positive outcomes.
Mint
Traditional uses: Prosperity, cleansing, energy, communication, healing
Found in: Money Draw, Hyperfocus Mint
Fresh and invigorating, mint clears the mind and is traditionally associated with drawing money and good fortune.
Focus & Clarity
Sage
Traditional uses: Wisdom, purification, clarity, long life
Found in: Clear Mind, Hyperfocus Sage
Different from white sage (which we don't use due to overharvesting concerns), garden sage has been a wisdom herb since ancient Rome. Its name literally means "to heal."
Eucalyptus
Traditional uses: Healing, purification, clarity, protection
Found in: Clear Mind, Hyperfocus Eucalyptus
A powerful clearing herb with a sharp, medicinal quality. Opens the mind and clears energetic congestion.
How We Honor These Traditions
We present these traditional associations as cultural history, not medical claims. Different traditions—European folk magic, Hoodoo, Christian mysticism, kitchen witchcraft—have used these herbs in different ways for different purposes.
Our approach: We don't tell you what to believe.
If you're a witch, these are ritual tools. If you're a Christian, they're aids for prayer and meditation. If you're a skeptic, they're beautifully crafted candles with real botanical ingredients. The herbs don't care what you believe—and neither do we.
What we do believe: The act of pausing, lighting a candle, and setting an intention has real psychological value. Whether you call it magic, prayer, or mindfulness, the practice matters.
